A group of youth interns will learn Yuchi language and culture for 8 weeks this summer at the Yuchi House

Youth will learn traditional Yuchi stories, music, and language from Yuchi elders and participate in public performances to share their learning with the broader community

Increasing the capacity of underprivileged youth to be successful both as students and as cultural leaders in the community

Youth will increase their skills of teamwork, leadership, communication, and computer/technical literacy.

Yuchi Language Learning

Historically, Yuchi people were forced from eastern homelands to Oklahoma on the so-called Trail of Tears, which caused a myriad of social issues and obstacles for cultural continuity. This project is designed to provide youth with mentorship and practical skills to overcome intergenerational trauma and reconnect them to their cultural heritage.
